Cricket for a cause by Coimbatore ACME Round Table 133

Coimbatore ACME Round Table 133 recently conducted Gully Kings 2016 Cricket Tournament for a cause. Funds raised through this cricket tournament are aimed at constructing classrooms for schools that cannot afford to do so.

As many as 24 teams registered for the cricket tournament. The four grounds of the PSG IMS&R also doubled up as venue for this cricket tournament and four cricket matches were played simultaneously. About 216 players participated in this cricket tournament and it was Steps Sourcing India [P] Ltd. who went home with the winning trophy and a cash prize of Rs.75,000. Rakindo Kovai Knights were the first runners-up winning a cash prize of Rs.35,000. Dharani Motors were the second runners-up and they won a cash prize of Rs.15,000.

At the valedictory, D. Lakshminarayanaswamy, President, Coimbatore District Cricket Association, gave away trophies to the winning teams. He acknowledged the efforts of ACME 133 for promoting the game for a cause that attracted such a large audience. He urged the organisers to conduct the tournament as day-and-night matches in the coming years.

“Coimbatore ACME Round Table 133 has so far built 82 classrooms in schools in and around Coimbatore at a cost of Rs. 5.5 crore. I thank all the sponsors for their contribution.” S. Prasanna Krishna, Chairman, Coimbatore ACME Round Table 133, said.
