Kongu Makkal Desiya Katchi’s General Secretary E.R. Easwaran said that no one can stop them from agitating for a separate Kongu state if the government continues to neglect the needs of the region.

The Coimbatore district conference of the KMDK was held at the CODISSIA grounds, with the focus on protecting the local culture. Addressing the conference, Easwaran charged that the farmers of the area are suffering unbearable miseries and the traditional industries of the Kongu region, including textile and motor pump production, are facing steep decline.

In the textile industry, Tamil Nadu is not in a position to compete with Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. While appreciating the state government’s recent efforts to attract investments in Tamil Nadu, he appealed to both the government and the textile industry to work together to safeguard the industry.

He further mentioned that the needs of Kongu region are continuously being neglected by the government, and if such a trend continues, no one can stop them from agitating for a separate Kongu state. He also suggested that Coimbatore be divided into two districts – one with Coimbatore city and the other with Pollachi as its headquarters.

He further pointed out that the police department is unable to prevent the movement of Maoists in the state and it is necessary for the Tamil Nadu government to stop the growth of mercenary elements in the state.
