DMK cadres arrested for trying to burn Speaker’s effigy

A total of 41 DMK members were arrested in Coimbatore city today when they tried to burn the effigy of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, P Dhanpal, in protest over the suspension of the party MLAs.

The workers, led by local secretary, Kurichi Prabhakaran, gathered at Sundarapuram and attempted to stage picketing in the middle of the road, police said.

The police on duty foiled attempts by some protesters to burn the effigy of Dhanpal. All the protesters, including two women, were arrested for attempting to burn the effigy.
