A herd of 12 elephants destroyed crops in farm lands in Thirumalayampalayam on the city outskirts today.
Tomato, grown in one acre land, and banana plantations were totally destroyed, even as a large number of coconut trees were damaged by the herd in the farms belonging to different farmers. The elephant rampage went on for more than four hours, police said.
Forest department officials toiled hard and finally drove away the elephants, much to the relief of farmers, they said.
