An Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell was inaugurated at Bharathiar University here in Coimbatore today.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Ajaykumar Singh, the Outstanding Scientist and Director, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allies Sciences (INMAS), DRDO, said that there was the need on awareness about IPR among various stakeholders.
DRDO has taken efforts to improve the standard of research and importance of IPR in new research fields, Singh said.
Listing out the role of the Central Government, Dr. SP Subramaniyan, Patent Officer, Government of India, explained the rules and ways of filing the patents, and their benefits. The University Vice-Chancellor, Dr. A. Ganapthi, stressed on protecting the knowledge at global level and detailed about the role of the cell in the varsity.
A special website was launched for the IPR cell www.ipr.b-u.ac.in, which provide details about the vision, objective, IPR forms, and procedure for filing a patent, and to help young researches and students to know more about on IPR.
Various aspects of IPR, its importance, basic concepts and procedures relating to the registration of Patents, copy rights, Trademarks and Geographical Indications were highlighted at the inauguration ceremony.
