Chennai: The Income Tax department sent a list containing names of 60 persons, identified to be close to sand mining baron Sekhar Reddy, to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan.
According to police department sources, the names include names of some Ministers, top police officials, bureaucrats, PWD officials and politicians from opposition parties.
“The list has names of few chief engineers from the PWD, who helped carry out illegal mining activities. We have notified the government formally about the individuals who exploited their positions to earn money illegally,” an official said.
The list was prepared following the information obtained from a diary that was seized from Reddy’s residence during the raid in November last. The diary is said to contain the details about his dealings with various persons.
The IT wing collected evidences against those individuals, before submitting it to the Government. However, sources said the Chief Secretary was yet to forward the list to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption wing.
“Action may be taken in the next few days,” sources added.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate attached Sekhar Reddy’s properties last week, after seizing 177 kg of unaccounted gold worth about Rs 50 crore and Rs. 140 crore in cash, during the raids. The ED has also attached the assets under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
