In a final attempt to regain momentum in all the constituencies in the State Capital, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is all set to make a whirlwind tour and campaign in all the constituencies in Chennai here on Wednesday.

According a release from the official website of the AIADMK, Jayalalithaa would begin her campaign from Dr. Radhakrishnan Road and conclude at Alwarpet Jucntion, covering all the constituencies and addressing in an at least more than 15 places.

Chennai was nothing less than a fortress for the DMK until the Jaya juggernaut swept it clean in the 2011 assemble elections. DMK’s every attempt to regain the fortress was discounted as they failed to make a big mark in the following elections. The AIADMK had again cleaned house during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections even as the DMK campaigned vigorously under the leadership of Stalin.

However, the recent Chennai deluge did leave the voters of Chennai disappointed and what followed turned the tables against the AIADMK as controversies arose over CM’s visit and her stickers found on relief materials.

The Loyola survey results which were published in sequence after the incident also predicted that Jaya was losing momentum in Chennai, which was allegedly moving towards their rivals, the DMK.

The DMK too targeted Chennai big time and used every opportunity available. What once looked an easy win for the ruling government in Chennai, is looking more closer a battle, after all the important speakers of DMK including the party Chief Karunanidhi and his offsprings Stalin and Kanimozhi finish their campaign there.

While Karunanidhi took a time off from his scheduled tour and campaigned in many places, Stalin and Kanimozhi contributed their part by covering most of the parts in Chennai, which certainly added spice to the contest. Karunanidhi is set to attend one more rally on 14th in Chennai.

Yet, one cannot write off the third front which is to surely split votes.

However, the DMK had stated that the competition was only between AIADMK and the DMK with Karunanidhi in an interview to a national English news channel stating, “I have been searching for the third front so long, but I could not find one till now”.

“Leading up to this point, all that has happened recently including the floods and its aftermath had certainly helped the DMK at least in Chennai. They will surely make a statement this time in Chennai. The third front would only be benefiting one of the two Dravidian giants needless to say who,” says a senior Journalist and political analyst from Chennai on conditions of anonymity who also felt that the DMK was gaining in the State too.

The journalist further stated that Jayalalithaa would definitely be looking to erase the statement and retain the seats and regain the momentum in Chennai and that is why the reschedule.
