The Chief Justice of India, Justice TS Thakur, has said that there was the need to provide training to judges at all levels, to help them confront sensitive and difficult cases.

Inaugurating the Regional Centres of Tamil Nadu Judicial Academy in Coimbatore and in Madurai, Justice Thakur said that the burden of judges have increased, along with the complexity of the cases. “Judges confront sensitive and difficult cases, and times are going to come to cases become more and more complicated,” he said.

With new laws being passed, and with new areas of crimes emerging, he said that it has become necessary for the judges at all levels, both Supreme Court and High Courts, to undergo training.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s observation that he will be repealing one law per day, Thakur said that at least 1,700 laws have to be repealed during the tenure. But he added that some laws had to be repealed, as they had become obsolete, and framing new laws was also important.
