Local polls: TN Election Commissioner reviews preparedness

The State Election Commissioner, M. Malik Feroze Khan, today reviewed the preparedness for the local body elections across the district.

In a review meeting attended by senior election, district and police officials that was presided over by District Collector T.N. Hariharan, Khan directed the election officials to immediately refund the deposits collected from the candidates who had contested the 2016 elections.

He also asked them to find out any shortcomings in the election booths and rectify immediately, an official release said.

The officials were told to take immediate action on the complaints, suggestions and applications received from the public, it said.

He also inspected the safety rooms, where the EVMs for local polls and also the lockers, where ballot papers were kept under tight police custody, the release said.

Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan and Superintendent of Police P. Murthy also attended the meeting.
