Coimbatore : A 35-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexually assaulting his minor step daughter over the past few months.

Police were on the lookout for the man, a daily labourer, following a complaint by the school, where the 9-year-old girl was studying. The girl had narrated her trauma to her class teacher.

The All Women police station in Pollachi had registered a case under POCSO against the man, who had married girl’s mother, two years ago, police said.

Police arrested Paramasivam at Thoppampatti on the city’s outskirts this afternoon. Preliminary investigations revealed that he used to often sexually assault the girl.

The accused had also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone, police said.
