Though technology has invaded homes, conventional Indian families still believe in matching horoscopes before a marriage. It is a tradition in South Indian families to ensure all ten parameters matched in the horoscopes of a couple. However, Psychologist S. Radhakrishnan from Coimbatore says that it is more important to see whether the hearts of the couple match before checking the horoscope.

“It is painful to see parents come to psychologists and say that the lives of their sons and daughters were not
peaceful despite their horoscopes having been a perfect match,” said Radhakrishnan in the premarital counselling for college student, at a private collage in the city.

Claiming that couples, whose marriages were arranged, were forced to apply for divorces as they did not speak openly with each other, Radhakrishnan said that it was essential that both the partners had a good understanding before marriage.

“If there is understanding, it would help the couple to know the likes and dislikes, characters, behavior, aims and ambitions and also the leadership qualities of their spouse. This will help them live a peaceful life having selected a person who suits their heart rather their horoscope,” he said.

He further added that such relationships, in which the couples had a non-matching lifestyle, led to fertility issues or childlessness.

“It is essential that a partner is happy with his / her spouse. This would also help in fertility issues as results have proven that couples who are not happy with each other are becoming infertile these days” claimed the Psychologist.

For persons who are to be married, Radhakrishnan suggested that they take psycho metric tests and readership tests before marriage to see if they were really compatible.
