The total seizure of unaccounted money by the Election Commission in Tamil Nadu has crossed Rs. 30 crore, with only three weeks left for the Assembly polls.
“On Thursday alone we have seized more than Rs. 54.24 lakh at various places”, Chief Electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni, said. The total amount so far seized was Rs 30.23 crore since Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was imposed in the State
According to the EC, of the total 2.94 lakh complaints related to the violation of MCC received, action were taken against 2.85 lakh. During the same period more than a 1,000 FIR have been registered against those who violated the MCC.
The Commission also seized gift articles including jewellery worth several lakh. In addition, hundreds of cases of liquor bottles have also been seized.
According to EC, cameras have been installed at nearly 38,000 places in the State to check the violation of MCC.
All the money, which was seized by the EC, was deposited in the Treasury. The CEO also said about 1,500 flying squad personnel have been appointed at various check points across the State to check malpractices during election.
