The Social Welfare Front, comprising three political parties, announced its candidates for 18 constituencies for the coming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, today.

The front, consisting of Welfare Party of India (WPI), Social Justice Movement, and the Ambedkar Youth Movement, has fielded a disabled youth, Sahul Hameedh, to contest at Thiruvrumbhur-Tiruchirapalli; a transgender from Mettuupalayam in Coimbatore district; and woman candidate, Zarina Jamal, in Alanthur in Kanchipuram district.

WPI’s Tamil Nadu president, S.N. Sikander told reporters in Coimbatore that the transgender candidate will be named on the nomination day.

While the WPI will contest nine seats, the Social Justice Movement (SJM) will fight the elections at eight constituencies, and the Ambedkar Youth Movement, in Valparai in Coimbatore.

SJM founder-president Paneerselvam said that in the constituencies where they are not contesting, the newly formed front will support those candidates not belonging to the AIADMK, the DMK, or the BJP; who are not corrupt, and are fighting for total prohibition.
