Nearly 300 activists, belonging to various Hindu outfits, were arrested while attempting to protest against the New Year celebrations across the city in the wee hours of January 1.

Over 100 Hindu Munnani activists, led by District President, Dasarathan, were arrested, when they raised slogans and attempted to protest the celebrations near Hope College junction, claiming that it was part of Western culture, police said.

Similarly some 150 Munnani workers were arrested, while protesting against the celebrations near R.S. Puram post office.

A total of 41 persons, belonging to Bharath Sena were arrested at Gandhipark area, while 15 Rashtriya Hindu Parishad workers were taken into custody from Gandhipuram, for attempting to protest the celebrations, they said.
