Nominations flood in for Thanjavur civic polls

Filing of nominations for the local body polls in Thanjavur district is gaining momentum.

Beginning on September 26, 1,774 nominations have so far been filed for the local body elections, District Collector and District Election Officer A Annadurai said in a release.

Today alone, 1,353 nominations were received.

So far, 45 nominations have been received for the posts of district panchayat ward members, five for panchayat union ward members, 163 nominations for the posts of village panchayat presidents, 1,490 nominations for village panchayat ward members, 57 for corporation councillors, five for municipal councillors and nine for town panchayat ward members.

There are 28 vacancies for district panchayat ward member, 276 for panchayat union ward member, 589 for village panchayat president, 4,569 for village panchayat ward member, 51 for corporation councillors, 45 for municipal councillors and 33 for town panchayat ward members.
