Kotak Mahindra Bank would soon introduce account opening process through computer tablet.
Disclosing this to reporters here today, its senior executive vice-president Ambuj Chandna said the bank would try this out in select cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune on a pilot basis.
“The effort is aimed at making the process hassle-free. The formalities will be completed at the customer’s house only through a computer tablet,” he said.
Stating that the bank was focusing on mobile and internet banking, Chandna said close to 40 per cent of transactions were done either through mobile phones or through internet banking system.
The bank would continue to pay six per cent interest for savings bank accounts with a balance of more than Rs. one lakh and five per cent for those with less than Rs. one lakh. “While the savings industry has been growing at 12.3 per cent, as a bank, Kotak has been growing at 40 per cent compounded annual growth rates in the last five years,” he added.
On expansion, Chandna said the branch network would be around 1,400 during this fiscal from the current 1,333, particularly after the acquisition of ING Vysya last year. “After the merger, the bank network has increased to 76 from 36 in Tamil Nadu alone and six more branches will be opened this year,” he added.
