Coimbatore: Demanding steps to prevent sales of liquor through roadside hotels and shops on the outskirts, a farmers’ association today submitted a petition in a ‘very’ traditional way.
Tamil Nadu Vyavasayigal Sangham affiliated to CPI, placed the petition in a steel plate with flowers, coconut, fruits and incense sticks like given during auspicious occasions, and submitted it to District Collector T N Hariharan.
The memorandum saidt liquor bottles from Government-run TASMAC outlets were being sold in dhabas, roadside hotels and petty shops in Karumathampatti area, some 20 km from here.
Despite complaints, officials failed to take action against such illegal sales, some of which was happening in open agricultural land, it claimed.
