To enhance the safety and security of the passengers at the Coimbatore airport, a police out post was set up on Aerodrome Road today.
The outpost will have police personnel doing round-the-clock duty in three shifts. An expert from Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad will also be present, the city Police Commissioner, A. Amalraj said, on the sidelines of the inauguration.
“Vehicles entering the airport, particularly the cargo section, will be thoroughly checked and the camera installed there will capture the image of the vehicle and the driver,” he said.
Moreover, the recently opened control room at some distance at SITRA junction, would be linked to the network, so that police could keep strict vigil and monitor the movement of persons and vehicles in the vicinity with the help of 12 cameras functioning there, he added.
Airport Director, Prakash Reddy said that instructions were received to set up such an outpost, following the recent attack on Pathankot airbase.
