Udhagamandalam: The district administration has been urged to preserve the sanctity of the temples of the Toda tribal community. In a petition submitted to the Nilgiris Collector Ms.M.Aruna here on Monday, the District President of the Tamil Nadu Malaivazh Makkal Sangam,Mr.T.Adayal Kuttan has pointed out that the temples of the ancient community, were rainbow shaped and made of stone, wood and bamboo to depict what they worshipped like the Sun,the Moon, the Hills and the Buffaloes. They would be located in sacred places where their forefathers had lived.

Lamentably a structure designed like a Toda temple, has been put up along the Indunagar road near here,to attract tourists.”It is not acceptable to us and we consider it as an insult to the community”, Mr.Kuttan stressed.

“We have already underscored the need to remove the structure” he said and regretted that no action has been initiated so far.

Hence,he appealed to the administration to protect the hoary tradition of the Todas by removing the structure.
