Farmers have planned to conduct black flag protests on July 15, on the stretch from Chengapalli to Kaniyur, on July 15 against the toll fee being collected at the Kaniyur plaza on Coimbaore-Avanashi highway, which they call as illegal, since the stretch connecting the highway was yet to be completed.
A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting held on Monday.
To protest against the illegal levy of toll, the farmers, residents, and stakeholders will stage a black flag demonstration and also hoist black flags, P.V. Gopal, coordinator of the committee set up for the purpose, said.
The farming community in the region has urged the Centre to take steps not to collect fee at toll plazas on National Highways from the farmers across the country. The meeting also demanded that toll should not be collected from the residents, farmers, and industrialists living within 20 KM radius from the toll gate.
They also demanded that the IVRCL, running the plaza, should immediately pay the amount collected so far to the Centre.
The committee includes members of the Apolitical Farmers Union, RTI Activists Association (RTIAA), and the Universal Brotherhood and various residents’ associations.
