Race Course Turns Pink as KMCH observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Yesterday 8th October evening thousands of people who have gathered at Race Course witnessed a rare phenomenon. As time went by there was the heightened sense of expectation and excitement.

Men, women, children who have assembled there waited eagerly for the rare event to unfold. Soon the word spread and the crowd grew bigger and bigger.
Whats the excitement is all about? What happened on that day? Lets put that in context.

World over, October is being observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The disease can be cured or effectively treated only if patients come for treatment at the early stage. Every year, breast cancer kills more than 500,000 women around the world. The good news is, 90% of early stage breast cancers are curable.

KMCH, as the one of the leading multi-specialty hospitals in Coimbatore, is taking several initiatives to fight against cancer. The hospital has an exclusive and dedicated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Breast Center with advanced treatment facilities, on par with the best in the world.

To create awareness on breast cancer among the general public, especially women, KMCH has made special arrangements. Apart from launching a signature campaign on 8th October 2023 at Race Course, Coimbatore, KMCH has also attracted public attention with a massive display of pink lights that has transformed the Thomas Park area of Race Course into pink colour. The towering Media Tree too glowed in pink, with its curved giant LED screen displaying breast cancer awareness messages.Pink is the colour that symbolizes the courage to fight breast cancer and hope for the future. The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness.

KMCH has meticulously planned and organized an event of this magnitude for the first time in Coimbatore. Thousands of people excitedly witnessed the Pink magic unfold before their eyes. The entire area turned pink amidst the loud cheers of the participants.

All women participants wore the pink coloured caps a symbolic way to extend support and solidarity with breast cancer patients. It also supports progress made in defeating breast cancer. World Health Organization (WHO) has designated October as the Pink Month.

Dr. Arun N. Palaniswami, Executive Director, KMCH inaugurated the event which is well attended by the eminent personalities of the city. Dr. Rupa, Lead Consultant, KMCH Breast Center also took part in the event. Hundreds of people including survivors of breast cancer, doctors, students, and KMCH staff participated in this event.
