To mark the National Girl Child Day on January 24, staff and students of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) took out a rally here on Sunday. The rally was flagged off by R. Soundravel, Regional Medical Officer of CMCH.

According to sources, the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development had proposed to all the state governments to conduct such rallies so as to create awareness about child abuse, child sex ratio and child protection.

Around 250 students and staff participated in the rally that went through Trichy Road and Government Arts College Road and reached the hospital.

Nearly 40 students of The Camford International School of Coimbatore took out a cycle rally. The rally was flagged off from the school premises by Assistant Commissioner of Police (South Zone) Anitha G.S.

The young cyclists went through Kavundampalayam, Edayarapalayam, Vadavalli, Thondamuthur and finally reached Boluvampatti. They cycled a total distance of 28 km.

Students distributed pamphlets to the villagers they met on the route. The pamphlets carried messages about the importance of the girl child.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the ride and will treasure the memories throughout our life. The best thing was that all of this is for a really wonderful cause, saving the girl child.” Aravind Krishna, Class XI student, said after the cycling expedition.
