Mutts should take up the responsibility of educating the society, said Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar from the Perur Adheenam here on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of his 91st birthday celebrations, he said that the mutts should give more importance to education and start building colleges and schools. “The mutts in Karnataka run many educational institutions. This should be followed by the mutts of Tamil Nadu too,” he said.

The 91-year-old religious head also added that the state government should start thinking about religion and contribute as much as possible to religious activities. On the importance of Tamil, he stated that the mutts should give importance to the Tamil language and translate religious scripts from Sanskrit to Tamil to help the local population understand religion better.

Shivaratri Desi Kendra Swamigal from Mysore, while felicitating the occasion, said that Santhalinga Ramasamy had been working hard for the upliftment of mankind and for the Tamil language.

Two books, Thiruneriya Theiva Tamil Paamalai by A. Periyasamy from Vellakoil, and Thondarthum Perumai Solvathum Perithae, were released on the occasion.
