Robbery in temple: Two remanded to custody, search on for one more

Police arrested two persons in connection with a temple robbery case near Pattukottai and recovered 1.93 kg of jewels and 1.5 kg silver ornaments from them. Police is also on the lookout for one more accused.

A gang of unidentified men decamped with the jewels and silver articles from the Adi Varadaraja Perumal temple at Karappankadu village near Pattukottai in the wee hours of June 6 this year.

Based on a complaint by Ramani, Assistant Commissioner, HR and CE department, Madukkur police registered a case. A special team, headed by Inspector Thiagarajan, was formed to nab the culprits.

Preliminary investigations revealed the involvement of three persons in the theft. Police arrested two persons identified as A. Azhagesan (32) of Odhi Arakkadu village in Pattukottai taluk and R. Balaji (48) of Pandhuvakottai village in Pudukottai district and recovered 1.93 kg of jewels and 1.54 kg of silver ornaments from them.

The two were produced in the court which remanded them to judicial custody on Thursday. Police is also on the lookout for one more person in connection with the case.
