Chennai : Saturday, June the 3rd will witness DMK working president under the spotlight as he plays host to the entire galaxy of opposition leaders. The reason: 94 th birth anniversary celebrations of DMK patriarch and his father M Karunanidhi, for which many national political leaders from the opposition space have confirmed participation.
When such leaders congregate, other than pleasantries, political is very much on the plate. At this outing, the opposition leaders are to firm up the template for the 2019 general elections to Lok Sabha where this group of warring parties plan to come together to take on a resurgent BJP under the prime minister Narendra Modi.
Basically the template was prepared in Bihar, where the opposition took on the BJP and worsted it. However, in the recently held Uttar Pradesh elections, the opposition was divided and split the vote against the BJP in at least three different directions paving the way for a stupendous victory. But now fighting for survival, the opposition plans to come together, leaving their king and queen sized egos.
Which is why, Samajwadi Party could be supping with Bahujan Samaj Party with the Congress being the common theme across the nation.
Which is why, Congress is expected to take a lead in the opposition unity moves. According to a senior Congress leader, Mayawati has given her approval for coming together on one platform to beat the BJP and stop it, in the general elections.
Although the same may not be visible or cystalise during Karunanidhi’s anniversary, a lot of progress is expected at the function.
The DMK will also be celebrating the diamond jubilee of its President Karunanihi’s entry into the state assembly on Saturday. Ever since Karunanidhi was advised rest by his doctors Stalin has been the leading the party from the forefront.
The Saturday function also signals the emergence of Stalin from the shadows of his father. Among those who confirmed participation include, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, TMC leader Sudip Bandhopadhyay, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI MP D Raja, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, and Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy.
