With the temperature rising, here are some yummy and cool desserts that will help you beat the heat, courtesy the caterers of Coimbatore. We recommend that you take a break from the readymade desserts that are sold everywhere, and try these custom-made delicacies. They will surely leave you craving for more!

We tour the city and land in the kitchens of these caterers to try their innovative and very special desserts.

Mango cupcakes by Yummy Genie
Yummy Genie is a made-to-order catering initiative by friends-turned-entrepreneurs Surabhi Satyanarayan and Mythili K., and is located on the Race Course Road. Ever since its inception, its owners have stuck to their promise of making and selling bakery products by the order, minus any preservatives, artificial flavours, or synthetic colours.

“Come summer and the orders for desserts made from seasonal fruits keep pouring in,” Surabhi tells us. This season we recommend that you try their mango cupcakes. Topped with rich pulpy mango, these cupcakes look as good as they taste. They come packed with the goodness of real mango fruit and are available in mini, regular, and large versions. Mango cupcakes can be consumed at any time of the day and they also are also a good dessert option.

Panna Cotta by Lathas Kitchen Studio
If looks can deceive, Panna Cotta dessert, by Lathadevi Sivakumar of Lathas Kitchen Studio, is certainly deceptive. The first impression leaves us wondering if this dessert is custard. It is introduced to us by its creator as Panna Cotta. We are told that it is traditional Italian custard. Lathadevi has given this dessert a desi twist. She uses grated coconut to make this smooth and creamy dessert. Panna Cotta can be made to order, eggless, by request, and it is available in chocolate and vanilla flavours. This dessert tastes best when topped with honey and served with fresh strawberries.

Strawberry Tiramisu by Upper Crust
An avid globetrotter, Madhu Wadhwa, who owns and runs Upper Crust catering, borrows ideas and creates innovative dishes based on the cuisines she tastes while travelling across the globe. Come summer and Madhu has her hands full with orders for her desserts made using seasonal fruits. “I like working with mangoes and strawberry for my desserts. However, this summer I have been getting repeat orders for my Ice Apple (nungu) Soufflé,” Madhu tells us.

This year she has given the popular Italian dessert tiramisu, which is generally coffee flavuored, a seasonal twist. Instead of using coffee, Madhu uses chopped and whole fresh strawberries to make strawberry tiramisu. Other desserts that have many takers are her mango cheese cakes, mango praline, and strawberry crème pie. All desserts are made by order, and can be made with or without eggs, on request. Madhu requires a minimum one day’s notice to ready the orders for you.
