Three held for deer meat consumption

Three persons were arrested by forest department officials in Coimbatore today in a case relating to hoarding deer meat and skin near Mangarai forest area.

The arrested are S Selvan, P Raman, and N Murugan.

Coimbatore Forest officials got a tipoff from local people about the hoarding of deer meat and found the persons eating deer meat. They had also stored the animal’s skin.

“Deer from Mangarai forest area was attacked and killed by a wild dog. The three planned to eat the deer meat and sell the skin. We went along with the team last night and confiscated 5 kg meat and skin,” said a forest official.

A fine of Rs 30,000 has been slapped on the three.
