Chennai: The BJP on Thursday demanded a thorough probe into the organ transplant operation on jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala’s husband M Natarajan, who was implanted with new liver and kidney after a seven-hour long operation on Wednesday.

The organs were harvested from the body of a youth, Karthik who was seriously wounded in the head in an accident and was declared brain dead at Tanjavur hospital. Karthik was airlifted to Gleneagles Global Health City, a private hospital in Chennai, and so far no one knows who paid for the helicopter service.

The Global hospital in Chennai admitted that the family of the patient, Karthic, were advised against moving the boy from the Tanjavur government hospital but his family members brought him to Gleneagles Global Health City for specialised treatment. It was here that the doctors treated him and failed to revive him.

After counselling the family of the boy agreed for organ transplant the hospital said.

BJP TN president Tamilisai Soundarrajan demanded a high level probe into the whole affair saying that all rules related to organ transplant appeared to have been flouted.

Kartik’s sister told a private television channel that a lawyer approached them and said he would help them with getting insurance money to treat their brother at a big hospital in Chennai. “We are not aware that they removed his body parts,” she told the channel.

The poor family could not have afforded the airlifting of the boy, said Soundarrajan adding that all indications pointed to foul play.

Incidentally, the person who allowed the organ transplant, Dr P Balaji was made the head of Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu recently, Importantly, it was the same doctor who attested the finger print of J Jayalalithaa on the election forms of AIADMK candidates.

The BJP leader said that only a high level probe into the whole affair would bring out the truth, Soundarrajan said.
