TN Govt firm on not allowing Sterlite to open, say Ministers

Coimbatore : Two senior Tamil Nadu Ministers on Saturday said the Government would take legal recourse against the National Green Tribunal’s order on Sterlite.

There was no change in the stance of the State Government and the Chief Minister also affirmed his stand not to allow Sterlite to function again, Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani and Environment Minister KC Karuppannan told repoters here.

On the tribunal order and anticipated agitation, they said the Government would fight the issue legally and approach the court at the earliest.

Karupannan here to participate in a plastic awareness campaign, said even as there was hardly 20 per cent plastic usage in the State, stringent action, including imposing fine, would be taken against those violating after the ban coming into force from January 1.
