Nearly two weeks after the daring train heist, police found a ‘sharp object’ suspected to have been used for making a hole on the roof of the compartment to gain entry.
Forensic experts and other investigation teams involved in the investigation have rushed to Salem to help the CB-CID police to ascertain whether the object was used to drill the hole.
The Railway Protection Force has handed over the brick, that was found in the compartment from which the money was stolen, to the CB-CID. The brick is suspected to have been dropped by the miscreants.
Police have sent a separate team to Salem with the brick, that has the words ‘SP’, probably the name of the manufacturer, on it. “Once we are able to find where the brick was manufactured, we can expect some leads,” a senior police official said.
Meanwhile, CB-CID interrogated more than 34 persons, including some railway employees.
Miscreants looted Rs 5.75 crores cash on August 8 from the Chennai-bound train, in which Rs. 325 crores was transported in sealed wooden boxes.
