Young Infosys employee’s killing sends shock waves across Chennai

Early morning began like any other normal morning for this techie from Infosys – 24 year old S Swathi. She got ready and went to the Nungambakkam railway station to take a train to go to her office located at Tech Mahindra.

Except that fate was to snatch her life away – and death came early Friday morning at 6.30 in the form of a jilted lover.

At least this is what the preliminary findings of the investigators at the spot of the gory killing of this young girl. A young man was seen talking to her for nearly half an hour and suddenly he whipped out a sickle and attacked her on face and neck, even as horrified onlookers stood numb. Within seconds she fell to the platform floor and lay bleeding to death.

According to eyewitnesses spoken to by police, the man was having an argument with the young lady, whom he may have followed. The early morning killing has sent shock waves through Chennai, which is considered amongst one of the most peaceful cities to live in.

Swathi, who works with Infosys, used to take a train to office daily. Police officials on the spot spoke to people around on the platform and searched for clues on the spot as also on the tracks. Their initial findings are that a person was arguing with her for some time. The infoysys employee’s phone has been taken for examination to check call records. The police are also examining the CCTV footage for any visual clues to the person. However there was no CCTV installed on the plaforms, sources said.

Initial suspicion of the police is that it is a case of jilted lover attacking girl for spurning his advances. Police are investigating and are searching for the person based on the description they have got from people at the station.

Her company, Infosys, said in a statement “we are saddened by the unfortunate incident that has led to the demise of our employee in Chennai. We are working with the local authorities as they investigate the matter and will continue to provide our cooperation and support.”

The company also expressed its deep sympathies to the family members of the deceased.
