It was a crowd-pulling performance from both sides with batsmen displaying power and timing where AB De Villiers created the record for hitting most sixes (23) in IPL 2018 along with the longest six of the season. A Imran Tahir delivery went over the roof for 111m.

AB scored a breezy 30 ball 68 (2×4; 8×6) to take the Royal Challengers Bangalore to a challenging total of 205/8 before Tahir had the last laugh after having the batsman caught by Sam Billings. RCB captain V Kohli could not display his power batting in front of the home crowd scoring just 18 off 15 balls. It was then Quinton De Kock’s 53 off 37 that steadied the ship along with AB followed by some lusty blows by Mandeep Singh (32) lower down the order.

With a target of 206, Chennai Super Kings started the chase in a disastrous way losing Shane Watson early. The Australian was caught by Mohammed Siraj in the very first over of Pawan Negi after hitting a six. Suresh Raina then walked into the centre but could not meet the expectations of the crowd and was cheaply dismissed by Umesh Yadav. Not all was over for CSK as they had a lot of depth in their batting; Sam Billings, the hero, against the KKR game in Chennai walked in but fell unfortunately to a quick stumping by De Kock, leaving the team tottering at 61-3. It was then that MS Dhoni known to absorb pressure at the highest level walked in. MSD 70 not out along with Rayudu (82) was involved in a magnificent 101-run partnership off just 51 balls to steer CSK home with two balls to spare.

In spite of the power performance from AB, the score set by RCB did not prove too much for a side which has often been rated as one of the most consistent teams of IPL. CSK defeated RCB by 5 wickets to claim the top spot in the points table.
