The Guardian

Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight starred with the bat as England secured a comprehensive 41-run win in the first of their three Twenty20 internationals against India in Guwahati.

Beaumont (62) and Danielle Wyatt (35) shared an opening stand of 89 before Knight hit 40 off 20 balls as England posted an imposing total of 160 for four.

Spinner Linsey Smith then removed Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues off consecutive balls to leave India on 23 for three in the fourth over.

When Anya Shrubsole dismissed Veda Krishnamurthy at the halfway mark the hosts were in deep trouble on 46 for five.

Shikha Pandey helped steady the ship as she top-scored with an unbeaten 23 but India fell well short, reaching 119 for six from their 20 overs.
