Most Android phone users in India use Google Assistant on a regular basis in order to get their work done. However, it is no hidden fact that India has more of Hindi speakers than English, which means that a major part of the country doesn’t understand or speak the English language, in turn, can’t use Google Assistant – which is surely a disadvantage for the company. Keeping that into account, Google has reportedly added Hindi language support in Google Assistant.

Yes, it seems you will now be able to speak to your Google Assistant is Hindi. Until now, if you use Google Assistant, you’ll know that it only understood English, alongside some handful other languages. Coming up with Hindi language support for Google Assistant, the company is definitely aiming to expand its Assistant’s reach to the masses across India, who until now, couldn’t use Google Assistant only because they didn’t know English.

The Hindi language support for Google Assistant is yet to be official. The Google Assistant support page still doesn’t mention Hindi as a supported language as of now. However, as discovered by Android Soul and Android Police, Google has already started rolling out the Hindi language support to all supported Android smartphones in India.

If you are an Android phone user, you will know, to get work done via Google Assistant you need to just say “Hey Google” and then voice out the work you want your Assistant to perform. Say, if you want to know the weather report, all you’ll need to say is – “Hey Google, what’s the weather today?” and Google Assistant — based on its search algorithm will answer your question.

Similarly, to make Google understand Hindi you can ask the Assistant questions like — “Hey Google, mutter paneer ki sabji kaise banate hai” and in response, you will get video recipes for making delicious “Mutter paneer sabji” – and interestingly you will get only Hindi recipe videos.

To Google Assistant working in Hindi, you will need to have English (India) set as your default language – you can go to the settings tab on your Android phone. To set up – go to Setting > Language & input > Languages > Add a language > Choose English from the list > and then select the location as India.
