Honor 8X, Honor 8X Max launch set for September 5

Huawei subsidiary Honor will launch the Honor 8X, successor to its popular budget Honor 7X phone in China on September 5. Honor is also readying a souped up version of the Honor 8X, aka the Honor 8X Max, and it will launch it in China on the same day. The company has taken to social media platform Weibo to confirm that it will take the wraps off of the Honor 8X and the Honor 8X Max in China on September 5.

Previously, the Honor 8X had leaked courtesy certification website TENAA giving out key design elements of the phone in question, although the leak did not give out hardware specs. The Honor 8X, according to the listing, will have a notch up-front and dual cameras on the back.

The Honor 8X will however be a little different from Honor’s recently launched notched phones. The phone will reportedly drop the wider notch format in favour of something more subtle. A notch like the one offered by the Essential Phone and quite recently, the Oppo F9 and F9 Pro. This should result in even more real estate and at the same time it would make the notch less obtrusive. Even Huawei is said to be working on such a setup for its top-tier Mate 20 line-up, that it will reportedly launch in October.

Hardware specs of the Honor 8X are scarce as of the moment but it is being widely reported that the phone would be powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 like the Xiaomi Mi A2 or a Snapdragon 636 processor like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1. The Honor 8X Max will reportedly pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, and a larger 7.12-inch screen.

The Honor 7X has been around for sometime in India and it has done quite well leading Honor to launch a couple of more affordable variants, the Honor 7A and Honor 7C in India. Both the Honor 7A as well as the Honor 7C boast of a full-screen (18:9 aspect ratio) design, dual rear cameras, latest Android Oreo software and a big battery. Of the two, the Honor 7C, is a slightly more premium offering in terms of hardware specs.

But the Honor 8X and the Honor 8X Max will be the real deal, and because Honor has been very active in India recently, these phones should be launched here soon enough. While the Honor 8X will be a follow-up to the Honor 7X and should take on the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Honor 8X Max should be Honor’s take on Xiaomi’s Mi Max series.
