iPhone X Plus may come with a triple camera setup, leaked schematics reveal

It has been repeatedly rumoured that Apple is working on three iPhones this year much like it launched a trio of iPhones last year. The only difference is that all three iPhone models this year are expected to be designed around the iPhone X and will vary in sizes which includes a large 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus model, a 6.1-inch IPS LCD budget model and a 5.8-inch compact model. Some concept renders have also been leaked in the past for some of these models, but now we have some schematics of the first two models that reveal possible design elements.

The schematics of the 6.5-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone models have been shared by Forbes contributor Gordon Kelly in collaboration with Ghostek. As per the the renders shared, the large 6.5-inch model, which may be called the iPhone X Plus, is what is likely to catch everyone’s attention as it may be the first iPhone with a triple lens setup. On the back, three cutouts can be seen suggesting three camera lenses similar to what Huawei introduced with the P20 Pro. Dual lenses have been a staple for a while now, but Apple could turn things up a notch by introducing one iPhone model with a triple camera setup to take on the P20 Pro.

Now while Kelly sounds certain that we’re looking at a triple lens iPhone X Plus, we should also entertain the idea that Apple may simply continue with a dual camera setup and the middle cutout being the flash like with the iPhone X. This would certainly keep in line with renders from earlier this month courtesy @OnLeaks. However, Kelly adds that the flash will hang out on the side of the triple camera module so it’s anyone’s guess at the moment. It isn’t a farfetched idea since Apple is known to offer extra features for its Plus-sized models in the past. As for the rest of the iPhone X Plus, the schematics reveal a notch on the front similar to the iPhone X and we can expect Face ID tech being housed inside it. The 6.5-inch model will apparently measure 157.2 x 77.1mm, which is slightly more compact than the iPhone 8 Plus, and will have a steel chassis like the iPhone X which means it may weigh a little more than the iPhone 8 Plus.

Moving on, the 6.1-inch iPhone is being tipped as the more affordable model among the three planned iPhones. This is because instead of an OLED display, Apple will be going with an IPS LCD panel and will ditch a few features like 3D Touch. It is also expected to come with a single rear camera sensor, which is once again suggested in the schematics as well. The budget model is also said to sport a near bezel-less display like the iPhone X, although we’re not sure how Apple will manage to make that happen with an LCD iPhone that’s supposed to cost less.

The schematics reveal the 6.1-inch iPhone will also sport a notch that will house sensors for Face ID and a camera sensor. The phone will likely measure 147.12 x 71.52mm and could cost around $550 as per KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The iPhone X Plus model will understanbly be the most expensive and may cost around the $999 tag as last year’s iPhone X, while the 5.8-inch iPhone X successor may fall somewhere in between the two other iPhones.
