HMD Global has been launching launching one Nokia phone after another, and the company is also making sure that most of its phones get updated to Android 9 Pie before 2018 comes to an end. The company has already confirmed that the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 6.1 will receive Pie in October while the Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco will get the update in November. HMD chief Juho Sarvikas has now hinted that the Nokia 5.1 Plus should also get updated to Pie by the end of the year.

In a tweet replying to a query by a consumer on Pie coming to the Nokia 5.1 Plus before the end of 2018, Sarvikas said that he would be “surprised if it does not,” which suggests the affordable smartphone will also get Android 9 Pie soon enough. While the tweet does not provide a specific date, we can be assured to see it before the year ends. HMD has so far stayed true to its promise of pushing out Pie to its phones with the Nokia 7 Plus being the first Nokia phone to get it last month, and the Nokia 6.1 Plus now receiving Android 9 Pie beta.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus was launched alongside the Nokia 6.1 Plus in August, but only went on sale last month. The phone has been competitively priced at Rs 10,999 and offers a combination of premium design and impressive hardware. Much like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the 5.1 Plus comes with an edge-to-edge notched display and a all-glass design.

To recall, the Nokia 5.1 Plus sports a 5.8-inch HD+ (720×1520) edge-to-edge display and is powered by an octa-core 2.0GHz Helio P60 chipset coupled with 3GB RAM. The phone is offered with 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to to 256GB via microSD card. As for the cameras, the Nokia 5.1 Plus comes with AI-powered dual camera setup on the rear panel with the primary 13-megapixel sensor and secondary 5-megapixel sensor for depth of field photos. On the front, the Nokia phone comes with an 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and AI face unlock.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus houses a 3060mAh battery, similar to the Nokia 6.1 Plus. On the software front, the Nokia 5.1 Plus just like most Nokia phones is a part of Google’s Android One program and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.
