HMD Global has launched the Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 at IFA 2019 in Berlin. The two new mid-range Nokia smartphones have been rumoured about a lot over the past few months, but are now official. Both the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 tout PureDisplay screens, triple rear cameras and glass designs. These Android One smartphones also boast a two-day battery and will receive the Android 10 update soon.

The Nokia 7.2 is the more premium of the two smartphones with a price tag of EUR 249 (approx Rs 19,700). The Nokia 7.2 will come in Cyan Green, Charcoal and ICE colours and will be released sometime in September. The Nokia 6.1 comes with a global average retail price of EUR 199 (approx Rs 15,800). The smartphone will be offered in Ceramic Black and Ice colours and will go on sale in October.

HMD Global is holding a Nokia launch event in India on September 11 where the company is expected to bring the Nokia 7.2 to the Indian market. The Nokia 6.2 may be a part of it or may release in India next month. The Indian prices are expected to be similar to their European pricing, so expect them to slot between the Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 segment in India.

Nokia 7.2 specifications
The Nokia 7.2 offers a premium design thanks to an edge-to-edge waterdrop display on the front and curved glass back. It sports a 6.3-inch FHD+ PureDisplay with 500 nits brightness. PureDisplay is a technology from HMD that offers high contrast, HDR10 support and the ability to upscale video content from SDR to HDR in real time. The Nokia 7.2 gets a 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 on the front and back with a polymer composite frame in between, which HMD says is as strong as polycarbonate and half the weight of aluminium.

Both the Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 come with fresh new designs that see a circular camera module on the back, recalling the Nokia Lumia days. The circular mound on the back includes three camera sensors and an LED flash. On the Nokia 7.2, there is a 48-megapixel Samsung GM1 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The camera sensors come with Zeiss optics and AI support. On the front, the Nokia 7.2 gets a 20-megapixel selfie camera

Notably, the Nokia 7.2 camera features a new portrait mode with a variety of Zeiss bokeh styles, called Zeiss Modern, Zeiss Swirl and Zeiss Smooth. The camera also supports AI-powered Night mode for low-light photography.

Nokia 7.2 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The phone offers a triple card slot that supports two SIM card and a microSD card (up to 512GB). The Android One device ships with Android 9 Pie and is Android 10-ready. It packs a 3,500mAh battery and supports 10W charging over Type-C. The Nokia 8.2 measures 159.88×75.11×8.25 and weighs 180 grams.

Nokia 6.2 specifications
The Nokia 6.2 looks similar to the Nokia 7.2. It also gets a 6.3-inch FHD+ waterdrop PureDisplay on the front, a 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the back and a polymer composite frame in the middle. It also sports a circular triple camera module on the back and a fingerprint sensor below that.

Under the hood, the Nokia 6.2 comes with some upgrades over the Nokia 6.1. The processor, for example, has been upgraded from Snapdragon 430 to the Snapdragon 636 SoC. This chipset is paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. Storage options include 32GB, 64GB and 128GB with support for microSD expandability.

The triple rear camera system includes a 16-megapixel f/1.8 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, the Nokia 6.2 offers an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. The Nokia 6.2 also packs a 3,500mAh battery and runs on stock Android 9 Pie. It measures 159.8×75.1×8.2mm and weighs 180 grams.
