Meizu has been teasing a new smartphone to rival the OnePlus 6T in the Indian market. Expected to be called the Meizu 16s, the premium smartphone will be positioned to challenge OnePlus 6T with a new Snapdragon 855 chipset. Meizu has been teasing the handset’s main features for a while, revealing some important details such as the camera, display, fingerprint sensor and the thickness of the phone. Now, Meizu’s founder and former CEO Huang Zhang has confirmed another detail about the Meizu 16s with regards to the camera.

In a community post, Huang Zhang said that the Meizu 16s will be getting a 48-megapixel camera at the rear. However, instead of using a standard Samsung sensor, Meizu will employ the Sony IMX586 sensor that was recently put to use in the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The camera will also support Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Huang Zhang hasn’t said anything about whether the Meizu 16s will get a dual camera setup or will be contended with a single camera setup.

So far, the Meizu 16s is shaping up to be a pretty strong contender to the OnePlus 6T. Meizu has teased about a fullscreen display with very thin bezels all around. The phone won’t feature a notch on the top – the camera will sit n the very slim forehead along with the earpiece and other sensors. The display will also feature an in-display fingerprint scanner similar to the OnePlus 6T. Meizu states that the phone will be 8.2mm thick.

Leaks have so far stated that Meizu will unveil the 16s with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 chipset. If this is true, then the Meizu 16s could be the first smartphone in India to debut the Snapdragon 855 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S10 in India gets the Exynos 9280 chipset, not the Snapdragon 855. The teasers also suggest that Meizu 16s will come with 8GB RAM. It is speculated that the phone will ship with Meizu’s custom Flyme Os based on Android Pie.

The Meizu 16s is expected to be priced around Rs 40,000 – the exact price point in which the OnePlus 6T sits right now. That could make the Meizu 16s a better choice over the OnePlus 6T as it comes with the latest hardware. In fact, no other manufacturer in India is supposed to unveil a smartphone with a Snapdragon 855 chipset until May, when OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 7.
