Realme 2 is real, image leaks on official site ahead of India launch

Realme, a company that started out as a sub-brand of Oppo, could soon launch the successor of the Realme 1. The brand made its debut in India earlier this year with the Realme 1, a phone that saw quite a bit of success and is among the best-selling phones on Amazon India right now. Realme India CEO Madhav Seth confirmed earlier this month that the company will come out with a Realme 2 and we now have our first glimpse of the device after it was briefly put up on the company’s official website before it was taken down

The Realme 2 will come with a notch, which is not at all surprising anymore considering every Android OEM is adopting the trend this year. Oppo already has a few notched phones in its bag and it’s obvious that Realme designs its phones with some inspiration from Oppo phones which is why the Realme 2 looks similar to the Oppo F7. The image posted on the website shows the front and back of the Realme 2. The front will have a more bezel-less display compared to the Realme 1 thanks to the notch, while the back keeps Oppo’s signature diamond-pattern design.

It also looks like the Realme 2 will get a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a feature that was missing on the original Realme. Another upgrade is the dual rear camera setup as opposed to the single camera on the Realme 1. Apart from the image and a tagline that read “A notch above” nothing else is known about the device as of now. We can assume the Realme 2 will be powered by a Helio P60 chipset much like the Realme 1 and the recent Oppo F9.

Realme is a brand that was created to offer impressive design and hardware at a far more affordable price. The company is focusing on delivering phones that fall between the Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 price segment. While we’re still a while away from the launch of the Realme 2, one can assume that the phone will be priced competitively in India and perhaps close to the Realme 1. We can expect Realme to start teasing its next phone soon enough.

Recently, Realme’s new Global CEO and former Oppo VP Sky Li announced that the company will now function as an independent unit in India and will work separately from parent company Oppo although the two brands will continue to share the same manufacturing unit.
