Xiaomi is all set to launch a selfie-centric smartphone in India today. Although the Chinese OEM is yet to confirm the name of the device, rumours say, it will be launching a re-branded version of the Redmi S2 phone in the country and call it Redmi Y2, a follow-up phone to last year’s Y1. The smartphone will be launching at 3PM in an event in New Delhi, the event will be livestreamed on the company website, YouTube channel, and also on social media channels like Twitter and Facebook.

The Redmi Y2/S2 is already listed on Amazon India with a ‘Notify me’ option, clicking on which you’ll be notified when the phone comes in stock. Just a day ahead of the launch, that is on Wednesday the price of the phone has been leaked. According to a new report, the Redmi Y2 price in India will start at Rs 9,999 for the 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage and go up to Rs. 11,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage.

The Amazon India poster, that accompanies the listing, reveals some of the key details about the upcoming Xiaomi phone. The first thing that it highlights is that the device will be selfie-centric. Xiaomi has been teasing the phone for a long time now with #FindYouSelfie hashtag. The poster further reveals that the front camera of the smartphone will be paired with an LED selfie light, meaning the Redmi Y2/S2 will be capable of capturing detailed and clear selfies in low-light situations. The Amazon India listing reveals that the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone will come with 16MP AI selfie camera.

It also reveals that the phone will pack a dual camera setup on the back. “You’ve got an eye for detail. So should your phone” reads the poster. “The new smartphone from Xiaomi will help you capture more detail than usual, giving you bright, sharp and well-detailed photographs in all light conditions.” This means the Redmi Y2 camera will not miss out on details.

In addition, the Amazon India poster also reveals that the upcoming Xiaomi phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and says that it will be “blazing-fast” and deliver “a smooth smartphone experience”. It also hints at the presence of rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Xiaomi has been teasing the phone for quite some time with the tagline “the best selfie smartphone.” Because Redmi Y2 is expected to be a re-branded version of the Redmi S2, possibilities are that some hardware specs may be similar to the latter.

The Redmi S2 was launched only recently by Xiaomi in China, with the company claiming it to be its best selfie phone ever. It comes with a bezel-less phone with an unusual aspect ratio of 18:9. More specifically, it comes with a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with a 720p+ resolution. In terms of core hardware, the Redmi S2 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Redmi S2 is backed by a 3,080mAh battery and Android Oreo-based MIUI 9 software. In the camera department, the Redmi S2 sports a dual camera system on the rear consisting of one 12-megapixel and another 5-megapixel sensor for portrait photography. On the front, the phone comes with a 16-megapixel camera paired with LED flash.
