Xiaomi on Thursday announced that it is beginning local manufacturing of Mi LED TVs in India in partnership with Dixon Technologies in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ program. Xiaomi has setup a manufacturing facility in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh in partnership with Dixon Technologies “to locally manufacture its range of Mi LED TVs in India.”

The newly setup manufacturing facility will be able to churn out as many as 1 lakh Mi LED TVs every month by Q1 2019 during operational hours, according to Xiaomi. Xiaomi will start local assembly with the 32-inch and 43-inch Mi LED TV 4A. The 32-inch and 43-inch Mi TV 4As are affordable Xiaomi Mi LED TVs that were launched in March this year. While the 32-inch Mi TV 4A comes at a price of Rs 13,999 the bigger 43-inch version of the Mi TV 4A costs Rs 22,999. Only recently, Xiaomi had announced that it was dropping the flash sale model for these TVs. Local manufacturing should help Xiaomi bring even more units.

“Xiaomi’s tremendous success in India has been primarily contributed to our commitment in India and we are proud to take the next step with the support of state of Andhra Pradesh. After a successful smartphone journey, we are beginning a new chapter with Mi LED TV manufacturing in India. We are already the number one Smart TV brand in India, and we hope that with our increased focus on local manufacturing, we would be able to increase our supply and ensure we can reach out to many more Mi Fans,” Manu Jain, vice president, Xiaomi and managing director, Xiaomi India said.

Xiaomi has been working on starting local manufacturing of Mi TVs in India for sometime now. Not only would local manufacturing help cater to growing demand, it would also hopefully result in lowering of prices, further.

“We really want to make TVs in India. Because if we were to import TVs we need to put 20 per cent of import tax plus insurance and logistics fees. If we can make in India, we can bring the price even further down. We’re trying our best to accelerate our plans to make in India for smart TVs. That way we can bring the price down to say 20 per cent,” Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had said while speaking with India Today Tech in April.

Xiaomi already boasts of six smartphone manufacturing plants in India and with the newly setup manufacturing facility in Tirupati (exclusive for making Mi TVs), clearly Xiaomi is in no mood to settle down anytime soon.
