Vikas Dubey, who has been on the run since last week after the killing of 8 police personnel in Kanpur, has finally been arrested. Dubey was arrested in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
UP Police has officially confirmed the arrest of Vikas Dubey, who was being chased across states since the sensational killing of 8 cops in Kanpur last week. He was arrested from outside the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain.
Upon his arrest, as policemen walked him towards a police car, Vikas Dubey was heard shouting “Main Vikas Dubey hoon, Kanpur wala (I am Vikas Dubey from Kanpur)”.
Ujjain Collector Ashish Singh said, “Vikas Dubey was going to Ujjain Mahakal temple when he was identified by security personnel. Police were informed and he confessed his identity after being pushed for it. He has been apprehended by the police and his interrogation is underway.”
CHASING VIKAS DUBEY
Vikas Dubey feared being killed in an encounter as police were deployed in court complexes and Noida’s news TV hub, lest he should attempt surrendering in court or in a TV studio to avoid death.
Vikas, however, gave police the slip and landed in Ujjain where he could surrender without fearing death. According to sources, he let the police know about his location in Ujjain and the Madhya Pradesh police arrested him. He will be handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Police later today if a court approves a transit remand.
Gangster Vikas Dubey, wanted in the killing of 8 policemen in Kanpur’s Choubeypur has finally been arrested. Vikas Dubey has been absconding for nearly a week after the ambush on a police party in his village, Bikru. He had escaped from his hideout in Faridabad where police caught three of his accomplices.
VIKAS DUBEY AIDES KILLED
Two aides of gangster Vikas Dubey were killed in separate encounters in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. One of them, Prabhat Mishra, died after police shot him dead in an escape attempt.
On Wednesday, UP Police killed Amar Dubey, a close aide of Vikas Dubey in an encounter in Hamirpur.
After his arrest, the Ujjain local court will give the police a transit remand and Vikas Dubey will be taken to Kanpur. It is in and around Kanpur that Vikas Dubey’s criminal network operated.
VIKAS DUBEY’S DREADED HISTORY
Vikas Dubey has a long criminal history sheet of more than 60 cases registered against him. Himself a local politician, Vikas Dubey wanted to become an MLA and had already served in Zilla Panchayat positions. His wife too has done the same.
Vikas Dubey was accused of murdering a BJP politician and minister Santosh Shukla inside the Shivli police station in 2001 but the murder charge could not be proven after the witnesses, mostly policemen, turned hostile.
It was in Shivli that Vikas hid for two days after the ambush on Kanpur police, revealed his aide Prabhat after his arrest.
