Kochi: The Hong Kong registered ship ‘Ang Yang’ which collided with a boat off Kollam was located by Indian Navy in the Sri Lankan Waters.

The captain has been directed to call on at Kochi Port. An Indian Indian Navy plane is monitoring the movement of the ship. Since it is in the Sri Lankan Waters, permission of that country was mandatory to intercept it, Navy sources said.

If the captain is not willing to call on Kochi due to the distance, the ship will be given the option to dock at Port Blair. The ship is heading towards Colombo. It had set sail from Bandar Abbas in Iran on August 20 to Singapore.

Action will be taken against the ship under international Maritime law for the collision in mid sea and speeding away ignoring warnings.

Six fishermen had miraculous escape when the ship collided with their fishing boat off Kollam coast on Saturday noon. The incident occurred 39 nautical miles off the coast at about 12.30 pm.

The fishermen were angling in their boat ‘velankanni’ owned by a native of Kankyakumari in Tamil Nadu when the incident occurred.

The fishermen were identified as Xavior of Thiruvananthapuram, John Prabhu, Shyju, Remi Das, Arogya and Annai of Colachel in Kanyakumari.

The boat was destroyed completely. A boat stationed nearby was rescued to safety. The ship sped away without stopping.
