Chennai: Liquor prices in Tamil Nadu have gone up. The decision to increase the price of liquor sold through the state-owned Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) outlets from Friday was taken by the State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Sources from TASMAC said the hike ranged from Rs 10 to Rs 12 per 180 ml bottle across all brands. Similarly beer prices was also increased by Rs 10. The Government expects an additional revenue of more than Rs 2,000 crore through this.

TASMAC, which controls liquor sale in the State, made an average daily revenue of about Rs 60 crore. During 2016-17, the State Government’s revenue from liquor sales was about Rs 27,000 crore Earnings through the 6,823 shops has been the second major revenue source for the government after tax collection.
