A large number of members of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Workers Progressive Union (TMTM) staged a protest in front of the TANGEDCO Chief Engineer’s office here on Tuesday.

TMTM Retired Employees Association spokesperson PK Kumar said that the government had not been giving the raised salary amount as also the arrears from December 1, 2015. The government should pay immediately the amount due for the last 24 months, he added.

More than 2,000 TNEB employees retired without getting their dues and should be paid along with their benefits under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

He also said TNEB workers were facing a heavy work load as more than 40,000 vacancies were yet to be filled. The Government should take steps to fill the vacancies and make contract workers permanent.

“In case the demands are not met, the association will call for statewide protest,” Kumar said.
