Bengaluru:Greenwood High International School, a residential-cum-day school at Sarjapur, Bengaluru, received Indian Green Building Council’s Gold rating for its Sarjapur campus. Greenwood High is the only school in the country to receive the award.

The school was awarded the council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design  (IGBC LEED) gold rating by scoring 66 points in eight prerequisites. These included construction activity pollution prevention, water use reduction, fundamental commissioning of building energy systems, minimum energy performance, fundamental refrigerant management, storage and collection of recyclables, minimum indoor environmental quality performance and environmental tobacco smoke control.

Greenwood High had adopted a number of innovative eco-friendly practices on its campus such as whole of the roof area was covered with high solar reflective index paint finish material to minimise heat island effect so as to reduce negative impact on micro-climate. The school installed a sewage treatment plant to treat the entire waste water generated and was re-used for flushing and landscaping.

It also set up building envelopes through high performance glazing, optimised wall and roof sections which had considerably reduced the air-conditioning load.

School Trustee Niru Agarwal said, “With the amount of damage that is caused to nature every day, protecting our environment for survival is the need of the hour.”
