Three youths have been arrested on Thursday for allegedly thrashing their own friend and crushing him under the wheels thrice at city’s Mukherjee Nagar area, police have said.

The victim, identified as Arvind Kumar, had to lie on the road for at least half an hour before an ambulance took him to a nearby hospital, where he is now battling for life in the ICU.

He had sustained fatal injuries and sought help from passersby, who refused any assistance since his condition was very bad.

Some however came to him to suggest that he should keep breathing till the ambulance arrived. One of them luckily informed the police control room about the incident.

“The incident took place on March 13 when Kumar’s friends – Deepak, Rakesh and Sonu – got involved into an argument with him over some financial issue. It has been learnt that one of the trio had borrowed money from Kumar and refused to pay him after he asked for it Tuesday,” said a police official.

“As the argument got heated up, one of the accused smashed a beer bottle on Kumar’s head after which the latter collapsed and fell on the ground. Kumar was then thrashed and crushed under the car,” he said.

Hearing the commotion, when locals and passersby rushed to the spot, the trio fled from the spot on the car.

“Kumar is sustaining multiple fractures and is currently in the ICU of ISBT trauma center,” the officer added.
