NSA detention for bomb blast ex-convict who threatened to kill Modi

Coimbatore: Mohammed Rafiq, 53, who was arrested on charges of an alleged plot to eliminate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is being detained under NSA.
Rafiq, an ex-convict in the 1998 serial bomb blasts here, was arrested on April 23, following an eight-minute recorded conversation with Salem-based contractor that there was a plot to eliminate Modi, which went viral.
Though the remarks were reportedly to scare contractor Prakash, police without taking chance arrested Rafiq and lodged in the Central Jail and now undergoing treatment in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for heart disease.
City Police Commissioner K Periaiah signed the detention order, which will be served on the accused tomorrow, police said.
The decision was taken after a detailed inquiry and search in Rafiq’s house after which it was learnt that there was a plot to create communal tension targeting Modi, police said.
