Fuel prices across the country continued to climb an upward graph on Thursday with petrol touching Rs 77.47 per litre in the national capital.
Thursday saw an increase of 30 paise in the price of petrol in Delhi. Similarly, diesel became dearer by 34 paise and touched Rs 68.53 per litre in Delhi.
Among the metropolitan cities, people in Mumbai continue to shell out the most for petrol. On Wednesday, petrol was priced at Rs 84.99 per litre. This increased by 30 paise and touched Rs 85.29 per litre on Thursday morning. Diesel too registered a hike of 20 paise in Mumbai with the commodity being sold at Rs 72.96 per litre.
Other cities like Chennai and Kolkata are not insulated from the soaring fuel prices. Petrol is being sold for Rs 80.42 per litre in Chennai while the price in Kolkata was Rs 80.12 per litre.
Prices of petrol and diesel have been continuously rising after voting to the Karnataka assembly election was held on May 12. The prices had plateaued for nearly 20 days prior to the voting day.
The Opposition has termed this as another attempt by the Centre to “fool the people”.
